Natural gas
Natural gas is a bridge for the transition from fossil energy to clean energy, and the vigorous development and utilization of natural gas is a basic project that runs through the green and low-carbon transformation and development.The company regards natural gas as a strategic, growth and value project, and continues to increase exploration and development efforts, promote the development of unconventional natural gas such as dense gas, shale gas, and coal bed methane, and introduce foreign natural gas resources through multiple channels to build a diversified clean energy supply system.

Focusing on the capacity construction projects of old gas fields such as the four major gas regions of Changqing, Tarim, Southwest and Qinghai, we continue to increase the exploration and development of natural gas fields and further consolidate our resource base.In 2021, the company's natural gas production will be 169.24 billion cubic meters, of which 137.8 billion cubic meters will be domestic, an increase of 5.5% year-on-year, accounting for 66.4% of the country's natural gas production. In 2021, we will increase the introduction of overseas pipeline natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and strive to increase production capacity to supply 205.55 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the society, an increase of 11.3% over the previous year.

Natural gas utilization and fuel substitution

Unconventional oil and gas resources
With the decreasing of conventional, easy-to-recover and high-quality oil and gas resources, unconventional resources such as dense oil and gas, coal bed methane, and shale gas are becoming a realistic choice to replace traditional energy sources.We continue to promote the development of unconventional oil and gas resources and strive to build a sustainable energy supply system.

Dense oil (gas)
China's Ordos Basin, Junggar Basin, Songliao Basin, Sichuan Basin and Qaidam Basin are all rich in dense oil (gas) resource potential and are important resource replacement areas for the company's oil and gas development.The company built the Changqing Oilfield, the largest dense gas production base in China.In 2021, the annual production of dense gas will be 38.036 billion cubic meters.

Coal bed methane
Coal bed methane, also known as coal mine gas, has a calorific value comparable to conventional natural gas and is a high-quality clean energy source.The company has built two major coalbed methane industrial bases in Qinnan and Eastern Hubei, with an annual gas production capacity of more than 2.2 billion cubic meters.In 2021, the two major coalbed methane bases in Qinnan and Eastern Hubei will have a production capacity of 2.45 billion cubic meters and a production capacity of 2.32 billion cubic meters of coalbed methane.

Shale gas
We regard shale gas as an important alternative business to achieve efficiency growth. We have actively carried out pilot experiments on shale gas development in the Sichuan Basin, promoted the construction of a national shale gas demonstration zone, and accelerated the large-scale development of shale gas in the Sichuan Basin.In 2021, the company's shale gas production was 12.86 billion cubic meters, an increase of 1.25 billion cubic meters year-on-year, of which the production in Southern Sichuan reached 12.69 billion cubic meters.

In 2020, the company's shale gas production was 11.6 billion cubic meters, an increase of 3.58 billion cubic meters year-on-year. Among them, the largest shale gas field in China has been built in Southern Sichuan, with an annual output of 11 billion cubic meters.

New energy
The company is transitioning from a supplier of "oil and gas" to a supplier of "integrated energy", gradually increasing the proportion of clean and low-carbon energy in the energy structure, and taking more active actions to combat climate change.In 2021, we will incorporate the new energy business into the development of our main business, vigorously promote the integration and development of geothermal, wind, solar, gas and electricity, promote the development of the entire industrial chain of hydrogen energy production, transportation, storage and use, strengthen the CCS/CCUS industrial layout, and set up three research institutes in Dubai, Shenzhen and Shanghai to promote the transformation of China Petroleum into a comprehensive energy company of "oil, gas, heat, electricity and hydrogen".
