On September 13, 2023, five engineers from the directional team brought 4 sets of natural gamma directional instruments into the Yaxin Fukang coalbed methane FK20 platform to provide directional technical services for team 30013 and Team 30014. As of December 10, the directional construction tasks of 6 wells were successfully completed and a series of records were set.

The FK20-4L well drilled by the 30014 team has a design drilling cycle of 20 days, and the design requires the use of azimuth gamma directional instruments; the actual use of natural gamma directional instruments is completed in two drilling trips, and the drilling cycle is 14 days; the mechanical drilling speed of this well breaks through the record of the block, and the use of fixed-guidance integrated technology to achieve one-time drilling into the window, the drilling encounter rate is 100%, and the drilling construction plan is completed quickly and efficiently.

The natural gamma instrument used by the directional team is the most widely used instrument in wireless drilling and logging (LWD) operations. For wireless drilling applications, it can distinguish formations most intuitively.Through natural gamma data, it is possible to distinguish different formations, especially in combination with drilling design, it is possible to determine whether the drilling tool enters the reservoir and whether the trajectory travels through the reservoir; it is also possible to determine whether there is a reservoir at the target location.
